Beaches beyond the obvious

Chaweng gets the attention for nightlife, but Lamai offers a quieter stretch with better swimming, and Choeng Mon in the island’s northeast has calm, shallow water that suits families. If your villa sits away from the main beaches, a short taxi or scooter ride is usually all it takes to reach a different stretch of coast entirely.

Half-day trips worth the detour

The Big Buddha temple (Wat Phra Yai) is a quick, worthwhile stop, especially around sunset. Namuang Waterfall, inland from Nathon, is a good half-day out if your villa has a covered outdoor space to dry off before heading back.
