The biggest mistake groups make when booking a villa is sizing it purely by bedroom count. A villa that technically sleeps ten can feel cramped for a group of eight if the layout is wrong. Here’s how to actually match a villa to your group.
A 5-bedroom villa could mean five doubles, or a mix of doubles, twins and a bunk room. If your group has kids, couples and solo travellers mixed together, ask specifically about bed configurations rather than assuming a bedroom count maps neatly to your headcount.
Groups spend far more waking time in living rooms, kitchens and around the pool than in bedrooms. A villa with generous shared space suits a group that wants to cook and socialise together. A villa with more private, separated wings suits a group of couples or families who want their own space and will only gather for meals. Check floor plans, not just photos, before booking.
For a group of eight to ten adults, anything less than a 1:2 bathroom-to-guest ratio creates real friction, especially in the mornings. Ensuite bathrooms attached to every bedroom are worth prioritising over almost any other amenity for larger groups.
Before confirming, ask directly: how many bathrooms, what’s the bed configuration in each room, and is the pool shared with any other unit. A quick message to the host resolves more mismatched-expectations problems than any amount of photo-scrolling. Browse villas by size across Goa, Bali and Thailand and filter by bedroom count to start narrowing your options.
